ATP Western and Southern Open, Cincinnati: M Zverev v Verdasco, midnight

Verdasco has won all 4 of their previous matches. The last time they met was in August 2008 in New Haven, USA on a hard court. He won in straight sets. All matches were won in 2 sets.

Verdasco’s overall results are better this year with 55% of matches won compared to 48% for Zverev. Zverev has a much stronger ROI . Verdasco has also been better on hard courts.

Zverev has been a little more inconsistent that usual recently. He played well last week though and took Dimitrov to 3 sets but lost to Pella the week before in Washington.

Verdasco hasn’t lost in the first round in Cincinnati since 2010. I give him a slight edge today but think we get 3 sets.

Wait for 1.90 before backing Verdasco.

Update: Zverev won in 2 sets. Poor effort from Verdasco. He was broken in the opening game of both sets and those were the only breaks of the match.
