Tokyo is affected by rain so just the Roofed Centre Court playing as I write this.
Hmm some dodgy looking games in the ATP with a few players playing their first matches since the US Open.
Sela v Giraldo:
This is a tricky one. Sela has a better style for indoor courts but his recent performance at the Davis Cup suggests he is far from his best.
Giraldo as you’d expect has been doing his best work on the clay courts but he does ok on the faster courts unless he is up against one of the top players. I don’t think Sela qualifies as one of the top players 😉
The prices are fairly even with Giraldo favourite at 1.76 .
Half stake on him from the start and i’ll manage it from there.
Update: Giraldo won 6-2, 6-3.
Bogomolov Jr v Baghdatis:
Baggy leads the head to heads 2-0 although they haven’t played since 2006.
Bogomolov performs best on home soil and like a lot of the Americans doesn’t like being away from the mothership.
Baghdatis has showed some better form lately and narrowly lost to Dolgopolov last week. This will be Bogomolov’s first match since losing to Isner at the US Open
Higher ranked Bogomolov is the 6th seed here whilst Baghdatis is a wild card but this is the American’s first visit to this tournament. Baghdatis reached the quarter finals last year losing to Youzhny in 3 sets. Baghdatis has points to defend and should be more motivated.
I’m going with half stake on Baggy from the start. If he makes a slow start I will add to the position higher up the ladder.
Update: Very tight match. Baghdatis won 7-6, 6-4.
