WTA Beijing, Final: Garcia v Halep, 9:30am

Garcia 3.20, Halep 1.44

Halep has won both their previous meetings. They last met in the Rogers Cup in Canada in August. Halep won in straight sets on a hard court. In January last year she won in 3 sets in Sydney, again on a hard court.

Simona Halep

Garcia won the title last week in Wuhan. This week she started her first match slowly against Mertens but came back to win in straight sets. She had a real battle with Svitolina in the quarter final. Svitolina had a match point in the third set tie break and had also served for the match at 5-4. Garcia played a superb match in the semi final to beat Kvitova in straight sets. Kvit had played strong tennis in earlier rounds.

Halep has been very focused this week. She has beaten Sharapova, Kasatkina and Ostapenko in straight sets. In the latter stages of a couple of recent tournaments she had played well during the tournament but flopped in a semi final and also a final. She seems to have lifted her game sufficiently this week for that not to happen today.

I think this goes to 3 sets. Some value on Garcia to take a set. I would give the new world number 1 Halep an edge to win in 3 sets.

Back Halep if she gets broken or loses set 1.

Update: Garcia won 6-4, 7-6. Halep wasted 9 break points in one game which would have put her a break ahead late in set 2.
