As I was going through today’s matches I wondered if we were back in a Grand Slam as the value was think on the ground. Patience is the key as we will always find value in play.

WTA Birmingham, 11:00 – I expect Dellacqua to be able to beat Urszula Radwanska but her SP is too low at 1.37 .

Radwanska has lost 12 of her last 13 matches. Only a couple of those matches saw her start as market favourite but a run like that does nothing for your confidence.

Dellacqua reached the third round last season but was unfortunate to meet Bartoli in the first round at Wimbledon. she has a good style of play for grass courts.

I’d prefer 1.50 to 1.60 at least before entering.

Update: No higher price. Dellacqua won 6-1, 6-3.

WTA Birmingham, 11:00McHale has been holding serve consistently despite facing a lot of break points. I think it is very likely that she will at least face some early break points today so we will be able to grab a price of 1.70 or better without her actually being broken. Of course there is no guarantee that she won’t be broken but if we enter at 1.70 on a player starting at 1.50 we are getting better value for our entry and I would expect her to break back.

Schmiedlova has had a good clay court season on the ITF circuit and also reached the third round of the French Open. She is very inexperienced on grass and has lost both her previous main draw WTA matches on this surface ( although one of them was against Stosur).

Update: It wasn’t easy to stay on McHale! Close match and it looked like Schiedlova might take the first set but McHale won 7-6, 6-4.

ATP Halle, 13;00Youzhny has a decent record there. he was runner up last season to Federer and also reached the semi final the year before, also losing to Federer.

Today he faces Karlovic whose confidence should be high after his success in the clay court season. His big serve should be an  advantage on grass although his recent record on the surface isn’t great. He did manage a quarter final in his last grass event in Newport last year where he lost in 2 tie breaks to Isner.

Youzhny isn’t having his best season ever and I have a feeling that Karlovic could take this one. Don’t expect many breaks though!

Youzhny starts at 1.70 .

Update: Karlovic won 6-3, 6-4.

WTA Birmingham, 13;00Watson has a great chance to get through her first round match with Wozniack. She beat the Canadian last year in Eastbourne in straight sets.

Watson is in decent form and starts at 1.50. I expect this to trade higher and I’ll be waiting for an early break for Wozniack before I back Watson.

Update: Watson was broken early but broke straight back and easily won the first set. She had match points in the second set but lost it and Wozniack won the deciding set.

Wozniack won 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.

ATP Queens Club, 16:30Querrey’s serve is clearly working well. He beat Chardy yesterday in 3 tie break sets. He starts at 1.40 against Kudla.

Kudla won’t be able to cope with the Querrey serve. Querrey hit 31 aces against Chardy.

A tie break or two wouldn’t be a surprise.

Update: Querrey won 6-4, 6-3.
