WTA Aegon Nottingham Open, 14:00 – Niculescu v Govortsova
Govortsova leads 1-0. That match was in 2006 on carpet and she won in 2 sets.
Niculescu has a poor record on grass. She beat Lepchenko in the first round this week. Lepchenko had a poor day on serve. She won well below 50% of her service points. Niculescu faced 12 break points and was broken 5 times.
Govortsova has come through 4 matches so far as she played the qualifying rounds and hasn’t lost more than 2 games in a set. Her opponents have been weak but it will have given her a chance to get into a good rhythm on serve.
Back Govortsova when she is a break behind or hits 2.00
ATP Mercedes Open, 15:00 – Janowicz v Kohlschreiber
Head to heads are 1-1. Their most recent match was in 2014 on clay. Kohlschreiber won in 3 sets. Janowicz won on an indoor hard court in 2012.
Janowicz had a tough first round win over Dustin Brown. He faced 12 break points though saved 10 of them. His serve was pretty solid generally but he hit 7 double faults. He didn’t have a good clay season so will be glad to see the grass. He reached the third round at Wimbledon last year and the semis in 2013.
It was a very strong match from Kohlschreiber to beat Dolgopolov in the first round. He lost just 3 points on his first serve and saved the only break point he faced.
I expect the sets to be tight but Kohlschreiber will scrape through. No value at 1.32 though. We can either wait for him to go a break behind before backing or lay him below 1.20 . We should see at least 1 tie break.
