ATP Mercedes Cup, 13:00 – Haas v Tomic
Haas has been out for so long with injury that he can’t be fully match fit. He is supremely talented though and was once ranked 2nd in the world.
All their previous matches were in 2012. Tomic leads 2-1. Haas won on grass in Halle but Tomic retired in the 1st set.
Haas served amazingly well for his first match back. He lost just 2 points on first serve.
Tomic also served well in the last round. He loves playing on grass and will be looking forward to having a good grass season after the excellent form he has shown so far this year.
This should be a good battle and I slightly favour Haas to get the win in front of a home crowd. Lay Tomic.
WTA Topshelf Open, 15:30 – Hlavackova v Jankovic
Hlavackova is mainly an ITF player. She has done well in doubles. She does have a good game for grass and has had some success in the past. She has come through the qualifying rounds this week. She beat Tsurenko in the last round and served well over all although faced 13 break points. She saved 10 of them.
Jankovic has had injury problems recently but has played some decent tennis when fit. She served well in her first round win over Smitkova. She reached the final in Birmingham in 2012 but since then her record on grass is terrible. Before this week she had just 1 win since that 2012 final. She should be too strong today assuming she hasn’t aggravated an injury in the first match. She can often start slowly so back her if she goes a break behind.
