WTA Quebec, 16:00 – Hlavackova v Tomljanovic

They have played once before which was on a hard court. Hlavackova won in 3 sets although it was back in 2011.

I was surprised that Hlavackova won yesterday. In the early part of the match Kania looked stronger but once she was broken and lost the set she fell apart. Hlavackova won the second set 6-0. Her service stats were good but that second set scewed them slightly. She gave 5 break chances but saved them all. She took all 4 of the break points she earned.

Tomljanovic reached the 4th round of the French Open but it has been all downhill from there. Her win over Falconi in the first round this week was her first main draw win since the French. To be fair she has had some tough opponents and also an injury.

She saved just 1 of the 4 break points she faced but won 6 of the 7 she had on the Falconi serve. She will have to work harder in this match and I expect her to trade a fair bit higher than her 1.50 SP.

If Tomljanovic drops below 1.30 in the early games she is worth a lay. Also as I am slightly favouring her to win if she gets broken in the first few games I will be backing her. If there is a break near the end of the set wait until the set is won before laying the set winner. I can see there being 3 sets here.

WTA Quebec , 20:00 – Krejcikova v Hradecka

The Czechs are well represented today. These two start around evens . Hradecka had the tougher first round draw but beat Larcher de Brito in straight sets. The first set was settled in a tie break and could have gone either way. Larcher de Brito’s head dropped after losing thast tie break and she wasn’t very competitive in the second set.

Hradecka found her serve in that match and hit 14 aces. She was pushing the serve a little too much though and her first serve percentage was just 48%. She saved 8 of the 9 break points that she faced.

Krejcikova has more wins under her belt in recent months that Hradecka although most of them were in ITF tournaments with the majority being on clay.

She had a very good first serve percentage of 71% in her last match and won 66% of points on it which isn’t spectacular. What could have hurt her against a stronger returned was her feeble 29% of points won on second serve.

If Hradecka is serving well against today I am going with her for the win.
