WTA BNP Paribas Open, 18:00 – Knapp v Wickmayer
They have never met. The 6 month stats show Wickmayer better on serve and Knapp better on return.
Wickmayer has had one good event this year which was her 4th round in Melbourne.Knapp’s good week was her quarter final in Hobart. She has served well in her last 2 matches even though she lost them. Wickmayer also lost her last 2 matches to strong opposition but served poorly in both.
I favour Knapp for the win but this could be a messy match and we can expect a LOT of breaks. Knapp starts at 1.83 which isn’t a mile away from the right price in my opinion.
Lay whoever gets the first early break.
WTA BNP Paribas Open, 19:30 – Zvonareva v Hercog
They have never met. 6 month stats have Zvonareva stronger on return but Hercog better on serve.
Hercog’s strongest surface is clay but I could never understand why her hard court results were poor. She has a good game for this surface. This year her best results have actually been on hard courts.
This will be a tight match and is likely to be a 3 setter. Hercog has the edge for me and looks decent value. Both can choke when serving out sets.
ATP BNP Paribas, 00:45 – Coric v Haider Maurer
They have never met. The 6 month stats are very even.
The 3 month stats are edged by Coric. He struggled in his last qualifying match and needed a 3rd set tie break against Fratangelo (ranked 170). He reached the semis in Dubai last month beating Murray.
Haider Maurer can be a tricky opponent if he is serving well. If Coric plays aggressively I expect to see a lot of break points on the Haider Maurer serve.
Coric is rightly favourite but the market has got carried away with his win over Murray. He is likely to trade above his SP of 1.55 . Coric will get his chances it’s just a matter of whether or not he can take them.
