ATP Monte Carlo – 11:15 – Kudla v Paire
Kudla leads the head to heads 1-0. That was in 2013 on grass and he won in 2 sets.
Paire has only ever won 1 main draw match in Monte Carlo. His game should suit clay but he has never shown any sustained form on the surface.
Kudla played well in the qualifying rounds and could push Paire close today if the Frenchman isn’t sharp.
Paire is way too low at 1.36 and is worth a lay.
ATP Monte Carlo, 13:15 – Istomin v Ramos
Istomin retired in the qualifying rounds. he is likely to have known he had the Lucky Loser place. I have read he is under investigation as he didn’t look injured. Will he fake injury again today to make them think his retirement was genuine?
Ramos is the better clay courter anyway. Istomin has never won a main draw match in Monte Carlo. Ramos reached the 2nd round last year. He has come through the qualifying rounds and beat Haase in his last match.
I will wait for a higher price on Ramos as I expect him to take this. A strong performance from Istomin after his “injury” will get him into some problems with the ATP. The winner is due to meet Djokovic in the next round.
WTA Claro Open Colsanitas, 18:00 – Kolar v Glushko
Glushko leads the head to heads 1-0. That was in2013 on a hard court and she won in 3 sets.
Kolar played well in her last qualifying round. She had faced a lot of break points in her first match and needed 3 sets.
Glushko reached the quarter finals in Rio but hasn’t had much success since. She can lift her game against stronger opposition but can take wins over lower ranking players for granted. This could easily go to 3 sets. Glushko will sort herself out for the third set.
Glushko starts at 1.77 . i would prefer a price above 2.00 before backing her.
