Friday the 13th. I think it’s a full moon too. I have already had 3 things happen that have taken up most of my morning so hopefully thats everything out of the way.
ATP Queens Club, 14:30 – Lopez has found his grass form this week and is playing with a lot of confidence. Today’s opponent Berdych starts as a 1.49 favourite.
Berdych wasted a huge number of break points against Mannarino and it took him 18 attempts to convert one. He will need to take his chances today.
Berdych should take this one despite some of the odd results this week but The sets will be close, especially the opening one. We should see a higher price on him.
ATP Queens Club, 16:30 – Dimitrov has yet to drop a set this week. Dolgopolov had a tough first round match with Istomin. He faced set points before they got to the tie break in the first set and went a break behind in set 2. Nieminen retired in the second set of their second round match.
Head to heads are 1-1 with Dimitrov winning their most recent meeting in October last season. I think he will have too much for Dolgopolov today.
Not the most exciting SP of the day at 1.42 but I may put part stake on at the start and top up if Dolgopolov can put some pressure on and push the price up above 1.60 .
WTA Birmingham – 17:00 – Zahlavova Strycova has had an eventful week. She has been to 3 sets in every round. She picked up a decent scalp in Safarova in round 2. She has had treatment in 2 of her matches for a leg problem although her form improved after the MTO each time.
Flipkens has an excellent game for grass and had looked impressive in her first match which saw her beat Giorgi in straight sets. Yesterday I tipped her for Shark Tips subscribers to beat Babos and had pretty much written the tip off as she had real issues on serve. She won just 1 game in that set. She did get her act together after that and had a 5-2 lead in the third set. She failed to serve out the match at the first attempt and faced break points at 5-4 but just managed to close out the win.
Flipkens has won their last 4 matches and in their only recent match she won in straight sets last September on a Tokyo hard court.
Zahlavova Strycova must struggle a little today. Three 3 set matches won’t help her injury even though I don’t think it is that serious. If Flipkens managed to sort out whatever her early problem was yesterday she should be able to avoid a repeat today.
An early break against Flipkens would be nice for a better entry.
