ATP Barcelona, 10:00 – Dodig outranks Arguello in the class stakes but sport is all about confidence and Dodig is short of that at the moment. He plays his best tennis on the hard courts but even on that surface recently his aggressive style has been missing.
Arguello is a clay specialist and plays almost exclusively on the dirt which means he spends his season on the Challenger tour. He has been having some success though with a title and a quarter final in his last 2 tournaments. He usually finds himself as favourite in the Challengers so it will be interesting to see how he handles the freedom of being the dog.
Dodig starts at 1.70 and I think we will at least see him trade higher. It won’t be a huge shock to see Arguello take this one. A lay on Dodig at or below 1.40 would be great.
ATP Bucharest, 11:00 – Berlocq v Seppi isn’t an easy one to call. I rate Berlocq as the better clay courter but his form hasn’t been great recently.
Seppi is usually a frustrating player to have your money on. His levels vary so much in most of his matches but he hasn’t lost his opening match since Marseille in February.
They have played just once on clay which was in a Davis Cup tie in January which Berlocq won in 4 sets. Home advantage won’t have hurt him that day.
If Berlocq plays even near his best he will be too strong on clay for Seppi but I won’t be backing him until I see how he is performing. If he looks ok I will back him but not below evens.
WTA Stuttgart, 11:30 – I am not a fan of backing at 1.50 in WTA matches but Errani has beaten Koukalova in their last 5 meetings and she is on her favourite surface. A word of warning though. Errani has never won a main draw match in Stuttgart and went out to Mattek Sands last season.
In those last 5 meetings Errani hasn’t lost a set.
Both players frequently make slow starts to matches so we could easily see a higher price on Errani. I will put part stake on her at the start and top up if she goes a break behind.
