WTA Collector Swedish Open, 12:30 – Zanevska v Barthel
Head to heads are 2-2. Their only recent match was in 2014 on a hard court. Zanevska won in 2 sets. Barthel won their only clay meeting in 2011 in 3 sets.
Barthel is only in the 2nd round because Bertens’ serve was even worse than hers. That was such a low quality match.
Zanevska has come through the qualifying rounds. Her 1st round match was also a low quality one. She beat Siegemund in 3 sets in a match with 19 breaks of serve.
If Barthel can sort her serve out she should take this but expect another low quality match with several breaks.
Lay Barthel if she breaks early.
ATP Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, 17:30 – Ito v Johnson
Head to heads are 1-1. Both matches were in 2014. Ito won at the US Open when Johnson retired in the 4th set. Johnson won on grass when Ito retired in the 2nd set! I wonder how they’re feeling today.
Ito’s second serve wasn’t great in his last match but he wasn’t broken. He didn’t even face a break point.
Johnson was broken just once though it was against a tougher opponent. He lost the first set in a tie break but won sets 2 and 3 easily.
I am favouring Johnson today. Back him if he loses set 1. No value at all at 1.30
ATP Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, 21:00 – Querrey v Brown
Querrey leads 2-1. Their only recent match was in 2014. That was on clay and Querrey won in 3 sets. Brown won their only grass match in 2010 in 2 sets. That was in this tournament.
Querrey struggled a bit in his first match. Ebden led for most of the first set and served for the set but was broken. Querrey took the match in 2 tbreaks.
Brown was fairly comfortable in his match. He saved both break points. He hit 18 aces and just 3 double faults.
Brown has more flair than Ebden and as long as he continues to serve well he can push Querrey very close. I don’t expect many breaks of serve. Querrey to win in 3 tbreaks!
