ATP Gerry Weber Open, 14:00 – Falla v Lacko

Lacko leads the head to heads 2-1. His 2 wins came in 2013 on hard courts. Falla won on an indoor hard court in 2007.

Not the best season from Falla so far though he hasn’t lost many 1st rounds. He can play well on grass but usually doesn’t string many matches together. He did reach the final last year losing to Federer in 2 tie breaks.

Lacko plays better on hard courts. He served well in qualifying beating Melzer in 3 sets.

Both players have come through the qualifying rounds. Falla’s serve can be very effective on grass and I give him the edge today. We could see 3 sets though and I expect Falla to trade higher than 1.52.

Back Falla when a break behind.

WTA AEGON Classic, 15:30 – Schmiedlova v Jovanovski

Jovanovski  won their only previous meeting. That was in 2013 on a hard court and she won in straight sets.

Schmiedlova has had 3 good weeks this year and the rest have been pretty average. She has never won a main draw match on grass.

Jovanovski played well in Rome on clay which was a surprise as the rest of her season has been poor. She struggled in her loss to Wickmayer last week and lost the opening set 6-0.

It’s hard to know how Schmiedlova will do on the grass this year but I will give Jovanovski the benefit of the doubt that she needed a couple of matches on grass to find her timing. She reached the 3rd round at Wimbledon last year beating Azarenka in 3 sets.
