17 Sep 2013 – Early to bed, early to rise. A few more matches today too.

The routine worked better yesterday. I was in bed for 10 and asleep by 11. Also up at 4:45 🙁

A few more matches today. The WTA has been pretty random as usual. The Wins a Set still going strong but the tips haven’t started the day well. Petkovic somehow managed to be worse than Schiavone which is an achievement in itself and what the f=@k was Cirstea doing?

Anyway, still 3 more picks to come so fingers crossed.

Istomin at 1.29 could be a tough low if Groth gets his serve going. The serve is about all he has but it means he can stay in sets longer and nick the occasional tie break.

Shvedova has had her problems recently despite making the third round of the US Open. She leads the head to heads 3-2 with Zheng though Zheng won their most recent in Miami this year in straight sets.

The Chinese players, especially the women tend to perform better in their home country. Zheng lost to Laura Robson in the second round last year but her 3 prior visits brough semi final finishes ( 2011, 2008, 2005).

If Shvedova plays her best tennis she can win this but we haven’t seen that from her consistently for a while so I will look to lay Shvedova if she goes a break ahead early in the match.

All 3 matches yesterday in St Petersburg went to a tie break in the first set despite the fact that 2 of them started with an SP below 1.20. Fishy or just coincidence? YOU decide!

Baghdatis and Tursunov start at evens in St Petersburg.

This one could develop into a real battle and 3 sets would seem a very real possibility.

They have played 3 times in the past with baggy winning the most recent (both in 2012) and Tursunov taking the victory in 2005.

Both reached the 3rd round of the US Open with Baghdatis falling to Wawrinka in 4 sets and Tursunov losing to Gasquet. He retired in the 4th set.

I am favouring Baghdatis to get the win today as long as he continues with the style of play we saw from him in New York. Tursunov has had time to recover from his injury but may not be quite 100% .

If I can lay Tursunov below 1.7 I’ll take it.

Delbonis plays his best tennis on clay but he could have a chance today against Roger Vasselin who has won just 3 of his last 12 matches.

Vasselin is playing at home which will help him and he will probably come through in 3 sets but he will have to fight for it. his SP is too low at 1.45 but a lay below 1.30 would be a good place to start.
