As usual there aren’t that many main draw matches on today. Plenty of qualification round ties being played though and whilst the liquidity often isn’t great you can often get some great prices as the gaps are bigger and over reactions are frequent.

Suarez Navarro has played Petrova twice in the last 12 months. Both were last season. Suarez Navarro won on clay and Petrova won on their only hard court match which also happened to be in Dubai.

Petrova has only played 1 match this season which was a very topsey turvey match with Peng that saw her lose in 2 tight sets although she had a good lead in the 2nd set.

Carla’s form has been up and down in 2014. She had 2 good wins in the Fed Cup a week ago but that was on clay which is still her best surface. Even so she made a terrible start against Zakopalova and I don’t think she held serve once in the first set.

In Petrova’s loss to Peng she actually played some pretty good tennis at times. The loss could well have been purely down to being rusty. I have a feeling she will give Carla a real run for her money today and I have her as slight favourite.

Carla starts at 1.64 . Worth a lay for me.

Larsson is a far better clay court player than Van Uytvanck who relies on heavy serve and ground strokes.

Larsson isn’t the brightest of players but has more experience. Neither has made a good start to the season but I don’t think Van Uytvanck will be getting her first main tour, main draw win of the season today.

Larsson starts at around 1.75 which looks like a touch of value for me.

Cirstea against Vinci should be an interesting match.

Vinci still hasn’t has a win in the singles in 2014. They have never met which I find a little surprising and this will make it more watchable as they have to figures out each others game.

Vinci reached the semi finals last year so her ranking will take a hit if she goes out in the first round.

Cirstea’s style of play is one dimensional. She hits it hard. Thats it. If she is finding the lines she could over power Vinci but some days she struggles to find the court.

If Cirstea is making a few too many early errors I will look to back Vinci but if it looks like Cirstea’s timing is good from the start I think she takes this.
