WTA Connecticut Open, 17:00 – Riske v Pennetta

We only have four WTA matches tonight. Sixth seed Pennetta takes on Riske.

Last season Pennetta retired from this tournament during the qualifying rounds. She went on to reach the semi finals at the US Open. So she has already exceeded her points from last year’s tournament. Will she pull the same stunt?

Riske reached this stage last year but had to come through the qualifying rounds first. I didn’t expect her to win her first round match against Dellacqua but the Aussie played a poor match.

Pennetta starts at 1.42 . They have never played before but I see Riske having a little more motivation for this match. Pennetta has a lot of points to defend over the next 2 weeks and I won’t be at all surprised if she doesn’t bust a gut in this one.

I’ll be laying with part stake at the start and will lay the rest below 1.30 .

ATP Winston Salem, 21:00 – Johnson v Querrey

As the tour moved back to America these two met in Atlanta. Querrey won in 2 close sets.

Johnson went on to reach the quarter finals in Washington and then the third round in Cincinnati losing to Raonic both times.

I think Johnson gets a little revenge today. He has had chance to find his timing again on the hard courts. He has the better all round game.

Querrey is defending semi final points and Johnson reached the third round last year as a qualifier.

Querrey has already played once match and came through in straight sets. However close sets against clay courter Riba won’t have impressed anyone.

Johnson to win, perhaps in 3 sets but tie breaks look likely.

ATP Winston Salem, 22:30 – Harrison v Rosol

They have met once before which was in March this year. Rosol won in 3 sets in a Challenger hard court event.

Wild card Harrison doesn’t have a great record on hard courts this season. he did beat Struff in the first round fairly comfortably.

Rosol hardly won a match around this time last season so every week he has a great chance to gather some points. He would be a fool to pass up the chance of points this week and especially if he didn’t give everything in this match against an opponent he has already beaten this year.

Rosol starts at 1.76 which looks decent to me. The sets should be close though and I will hold back some of my stake to add if he goes above evens.
