WTA Bucharest Open, 15:00 – Errani v Schmiedlova

Errani Won their only previous meeting. That was in the Rio Final this year. She won in 2 sets.

That final was Schmiedlova’s first WTA final. Since then she won her first WTA title. She has played better tennis this week than Errani.

The Italian has had problems on serve. She has faced 35 break points and 15 in the semi final. Schmiedlova has faced 11 break points. She has been broken just 4 times

Errani is the better clay player. Her serve has never been the strongest part of her game but she needs it to remain at its normal level for the rest of her game to be able to get the job done.

I think this can be very close and the value is on Schmiedlova. I think in a scrap on clay Errani will come out on top.

Back Errani if she gets broken in the opening games.

ATP Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, 19:00 – Ram v Karlovic

Karlovic leads 2-0. Their most recent meeting was in 2009. They haven’t played on grass.

Ram has had a great week. He knocked out Isner and Mannarino in third set tie breaks. Smith had been serving well and pushed him close but Ram took that one in 2 sets with yet another tie break.

Sock started his match with Karlovic as the stronger player. Karlovic was broken to 0 in his second service game. Sock took a 4-1 lead but from that point on he had very few chances on the Karlovic serve. He did get set points with Karlovic serving at 4-5 but couldn’t take them. Karlovic won the set in a tie break. In set 2 Karlovic lost just 1 point on serve.

Everything points to a Karlovic win but if he starts slowly as in the last match then maybe Ram will hold on to a lead. I see no value here unless Ram takes the 1st set. Karlovic was actually pretty good on return of serve and had 8 break points against Sock. He only took 2 of them but it was enough.

Back Karlovic if Ram takes set 1.
