Two matches carried over from yesterday. Murray and Kohlschreiber are at 7-7 in the 5th set. Murray led 2-1 and had a break lead in the 4th but the German pulled him back. Murray was back to his pre-Lendl ways and was showing signs of injury. Having played 5 sets it probably wasn’t as bad as he was making out. The tactic worked well for Monfils….
I tipped Verdasco to beat Gasquet for the Shark Tips service. He took the first 2 sets but I would have preferred the match to have been finished last night. Gasquet was finished but a night’s rest makes the outcome less certain.
10:00 – Berdych has a strong record against Isner. He leads their head to heads 4-2. Isner’s wins came in America on hard courts and went o 3 sets. Both their clay matches were won by Berdych including at the French Open in 2010.
Given how tight the sets should be Berdych at 1.26 is no value as the Isner serve is working well. He is worth laying but I tipped Berdych to reach the quarter finals and I am sticking with that.
Kerber v Bouchard is covered for the Shark Tips subscribers
13:00 – The Federer v Gulbis match is also covered for Shark Tips but I can’t really ignore it on here.
They have played 3 times before with all 3 being in 2010. Each one went the distance and Fed leads 2-1. Gulbis won on clay in Rome.
This won’t be a walk in the park for Federer but they have never played a best of 5 match and I think Gulbis will find it tough to hold his game together against Federer.
13:00 – Suarez Navarro looks too low against Tomljanovic who beat Radwanska in straight sets. Carla is at 1.29 and it is hard to imagine that not trading higher. Another upset isn’t out of the question.
17:30 – Stosur’s record against Sharapova must make depressing reading for her. Sharapova leads 13-2 and in those 13 losses Stosur won just 3 sets.
Even so I think the Aussie will give a good account of herself today and we should see the price trading higher than its starting point of 1.27 . She has been much more consistent recently. Whether she can continue that when faced with a player who has dominated her for years is another matter.
