ATP Hamburg, 14:00 – Ferrer v L Mayer
Ferrer was taken to 3 sets in his first 2 matches this week but had no trouble with Andujar in the quarter final. Zverev had looked tired in his quarter final and managed to win just 1 game from Ferrer.
Leo Mayer is difficult to predict at the best of times and I’m not sure many people had him reaching the final and without losing a set.
Ferrer has lost 8 of his last 9 finals. His opponent were the likes of Djokovic, Nadal, Murray and Wawrinka. He beat Fognini on clay in Buenes Aeries in February.
In the last 3 seasons Mayer has been in 5 finals and has won alternate times. If he is to continue that pattern he is due a win today having lost to Fognini in Chile.
They have played just once which was 2 years ago but they have never met on clay. This is Mayer’s best surface but it’s hard to see him taking this one.
Ferrer starts at 1.20 . Seppi was finally able to take a set from him in the third round so there’s a chance we get a higher price on him than his 1.20 SP. I will wait for the higher entry or if Ferrer breaks early its worth taking the cheap lay for a trade.
WTA Istanbul Cup, 15:00 – Wozniacki v Vinci.
I never really had Vinci down as the Duracell Bunny type but she is in her second consecutive final. She lost the last one to Simona Halep but maybe has a little more chance today. She hasn’t lost a set so far and hasn’t been tested at all.
Wozniacki has faced tougher opposition and has been to three sets twice. Mladenovic was tired in the semi final after wrecking my tip on Schiavone in the previous round.
Vinci leads the head to heads 2-1 and won their only clay court meeting in Madrid earlier this year. All 3 of their previous matches have been won in straight sets.
1.43 on Wozniacki doesn’t offer any value in my opinion. In Madrid she probably wasn’t in a great place emotionally but seems to back to something like her old form. She looks more relaxed and has also lost some weight.
An early break for Vinci would be my cue to back Wozniacki.
