WTA qualification, 17:00 – Glushko v Karatantcheva
Karatantcheva leads the head to heads 1-0 . That was in 2011 on a hard courts and was won in straight sets.
Stats for this season are very even. Glushko doesn’t often make it through the qualifying rounds. Just once this season.
Karatantcheva is having a good season. She reached the semis in Acapulco as qualifier and the 2nd round in Indian Wells as qualifier. Her price is too low at 1.45 but I expect her to take the match. She is likely to face a lot of break points so we have a good chance of getting a better price on her. I want 1.70 .
WTA qualification, 18:30 – Scheepers v Rodina
Rodina leads the head to heads 1-0. That was at Wimbledon in 2011 and she won in straight sets.
Scheepers finally got her first win of the season. She beat Date Krumm who had retired from her last 2 matches. There’s a chance the win kick starts her season as wins bring confidence and she desperately needed some.
Rodina needed 3 sets to beat Duque Marino but Marino’s stats were strong in previous matches.
I think Rod takes this in 2 tight sets. She starts around 1.80 .
WTA First round, 19:00 – Koukalova v Mladenovic
Mladenovic leads the head to heads 1-0. That was in 2014 on a hard court and she won in 2 sets.
Koukalova has really struggled for form this year. She did beat Hantuchova in Indian Wells but it was a rare good performance.
Mladenovic has been a little more consistent but these two can be frustrating to back. The stats give a slight edge to Mladenovic but I will wait for her to go a break behind. I wouldn’t be confident of either player holding easily when serving for a set.
Koukalova is very capable of playing a strong match on hard courts but we never know when she will put everything together on the court.
