ATP Malaysian Open, 06:00 – Cuevas v Dodig

Cuevas starts as slight favourite at 1.87 . He beat Melzer in straight sets in the first round.

Dodig would normally be the market favourite but he hasn’t been in top form lately. he has struggled with injury for a few weeks and before this week had lost 4 in a row including a very weak performance against Sousa last week.

Dodig’s serve hasn’t been as reliable as usual and i expect Cuevas to put him under a lot of pressure. If he isn’t getting the free points on serve the rest of his game will start to falter.

Cuevas gave Melzer just 5 break points and saved 4 of them.

I am favouring Cuevas but will wait to back him above evens.

WTA Wuhan, 08:00 – Pliskova v Kvitova

At what stage will Pliskova need a rest? Petkovic wasn’t able to trouble her too much in the last round. her serve continued to be effective.

Kvitova struggled with Knapp’s serve for most of the first set but once that set was  secured Knapp faded badly. If Kvitova plays with controlled aggression rather than going for big winners too quickly she should soon be on top in this one. That isn’t how she played the first set on Tuesday though so this could well be a long match.

If Pliskova still has enough left in the tank I think she can trouble Kvitova but I will be looking for a higher entry price on Kvitova. We have a decent chance of seeing three sets.

ATP Shenzhen Open, 10:00 – Pospisil v Monaco

Monaco played reasonably well in his straight sets win over Delbonis. he won 83% of points on his first serve and gave just 3 break points to Delbonis who wasn’t able to take any of them.

Pospisil also served well in the firs round. He saved all 4 of the break points he faced against Gabashvili.

I think Monaco is being under rated here. Pospisil starts at 1.62 . Even though Monaco has had a terrible season when he gets everything together on court he is a very capable hard court player.

This should be a tight match with very few breaks. if Monaco serves consistently I think he has the returning skills to put pressure on the Pospisil serve. It is tough to pick a winner but I expect Monaco to trade lower than 1.60 .
