ATP Malaysian Open, 07:00 – Cuevas v Benneteau
They have played before but it was back in 2008 and on clay.
Benneteau had a comfortable first match against Krajinovic. He wasn’t really tested which won’t help him today. Cuevas has faced two much tougher opponents in melzer and Dodig. Melzer was beaten in two close sets and against Dodig Benneteau had to come back from a set down to win 7-5 in the third.
Cuevas plays his best tennis on clay but has a big serve that suits hard courts well. Now that his confidence is high from having his best season he will be a difficult opponent for Benneteau today.
Benneteau is having an average sort of season. His form had improved recently with a semi final in Cincinnati but since then he lost his next two matches as a 1.50 favourite.
So on paper Cuevas’ preparation for this match is better and I expect Benneteau’s starting price of 1.60 to trade higher.
Benneteau has lost in the final in the last 2 seasons so he will be motivated for this one and I favour him to come through in 3 sets.
ATP Shenzhen Open, 08:00 – Troicki v Giraldo
Troicki has made a good return after his ban. being banned for a few months seems to help players when they get back. If Cilic is anything to go by we can expect Troicki to win the French Open next season.
Troicki beat a poor Ferrer in the last round and that has pushed his price down too low against Giraldo.
Both have served well this week. Troicki has had a lot of success on the Challenger clay courts and seems to have made the switch to hard courts well.
Giraldo hasn’t had the toughest draw this week and needed 3 sets to beat Ouyang in the first round.
I am going with Troicki to win but I want at least 1.80 before getting involved.
