2nd February 2014 – Family weekend

We have had family over all weekend so little or no trading for me.

Just a few thoughts on the WTA Paris final between Pavlyuchenkova and Errani.

What a week Pav has had with wins over Kerber and Sharapova. Can she beat another top 10 player today?

She has played Errani just once before which was also on an indoor hard court. She won in two tie break sets.

Errani has found some singles form this week. I opposed her against Knapp and whilst Knapp was well below her best Errani looked up for the match and showed some of the type of tennis that moved her into the top 10.

Pav starts at 1.61 which is a little short but she is rightly the favourite. She has served an average of 6 double faults in each match this week but over all she has served well.

Errani has been her typically consistent self although it makes a change from some of her recent singles form.

Errani has lost 3 of the 4 finals that she has been in since the start of 2013 with her only win being over Suarez Navarro. In the same period Pavlyuchenkova has been in 3 finals and won 2 of them, one also over Carla and she beat Kerber in the other. Her loss came to Radwanska in 3 sets last September.

I am going with Pavlyuchenkova to get the win though I will be waiting for a higher entry price. I expect the cheap points she gets on serve will be the difference.

Update: An odd match even for the WTA. Pav took a 3-1 lead and then lost 7 games in a row. She then won 7 in a row herself. Errani then won 3 consecutive games before Pav won 5 on the trot!

Pav won 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
