ATP German Tennis Championships, 13:00 – Seppi v Mayer
Seppi leads the head to heads 3-1. The most recent meeting was in 2014. it was on a hard court and he won in 3 sets. Their only clay match was in 2005. Seppi won in 2 sets.
Seppi served very well to beat Klizan in the 1st round. He faced just 3 break points and if I remember correctly they were all in the same game. He saved all 3.
Mayer was let off the hook so many times by Montanes in their 1st round match. He faced 16 break points and was broken just 4 times. He faced 7 break points in a single game. Very frustrating as I had tipped Montanes!
I have to go with Seppi. He wasn’t good last week but has improved a great deal in this tournament. I’d prefer 1.60 to 1.70 before backing.
ATP Atlanta Open, 23:00 – Isner v Stepanek
Stepanek leads their previous meetings 3-1. The most recent was in 2012. That was on a hard court and Stepanek won in 3 sets.
Isner hasn’t played on a hard court since he reached the semi finals in Miami in March. He has a fantastic record in Atlanta. He is defending champion and also won in 2013. He has reached the final in 4 of his 5 visits to this event. The 5th was as semi final loss to Roddick in 3 sets.
Since he returned to the tour in April after 7 months out Stepanek struggled on clay and grass. He reached the quarter finals in Bogota last week losing to Karlovic in 3 sets.
I think Step can take this to 3 sets but Isner has proved in the past that he is tough the beat in this venue.
Back Isner if Stepanek takes set 1.
