Today some of the women move back onto the clay. For some of them its has been quite a while since they were on the dirt courts which demand a different style of play.

For the Charleston matches be careful with players who haven’t been on clay recently. Most of the players involved aren’t the game’s top players and can take longer to make the transition from one surface to another.

Charleston, 17:00 – I’d think Goerges should have too much for Razzano on clay  but I have a feeling it won’t be easy. Razanno lifts her game against medium ranked big names and is actually slightly higher up the rankings!

1.55 feels too low on the German.

Update: Very odd match!

Razzano won 6-0, 5-7, 6-2.

Charleston, 19:00Voegele starts as slight underdog against Tomljanovic. Their only previous meeting was last season on a hard court in Stanford and Voegele won very comfortably in straight sets.

In the last 12 months Voegele has a winning record on clay….just. She won 7 of her 13 matches. Tomljanovic played just 1 match which she lost.

That seems to suggest there is value on Voegele at 2.14 .

Tomljanovic has been performing well on the hard courts but on the clay, since she won an ITF title on this surface in April last year she has lost 4 of her last 5 clay court matches.

Update: Tomljanovic won 6-7, 6-1, 7-5.

Monterrey, 22:00Mladenovic has won all 3 of her matches against Konta. The most recent was last season on the Birmingham grass and she won in straight sets. Since then Mladenovic’s ranking has fallen from 39 to 82. Konta has improved from 140 to 115.

In September last season Konta reached the quarter final in Guangzhou. Since then she has managed to make it past the qualifying rounds in a main tour event.

Mladenovic hasn’t been faring much better. Since the end of September she has only made it through the first round 5 times in 11 tournaments. Nine of her 11 losses have been as underdog though.

I am favouring Mladenovic in this one and 1.70 isn’t the worst price I have seen today. Konta’s serve can vary greatly from one game to the next. I think we will see some nice swings in the price in this one.

Update: Mladenovic won 6-4, 6-2.
