3rd April 2014

The Shark Tips picks from yesterday kept us on the edge of our seats! Jaksic at 2.40 seemed to be crashing as Kumkhum easily took the opening set. Jaksic went a break down in the second set and saved several match points before taking it to a tie break with she won. Despite her opponent having a couple of MTO’s she went a break behind but again fought back to another tie break. She won this one too!

The other pick was a double with Errani and Tomljanovic. Errani pissed about in the early games but finally got on top and took the set. Bertens then retired.

Tomljanovic led the opening set against Zhang 4-1 with a double break but managed to lose the next 5 games. We saw yet another tie break in a very tight second set which Tomljanovic won. In the third Tomljanovic went into a 5-1 lead and looked like she might be pegged back as she failed to serve out the match. Her second attempt to close out went better and the double at 2.08 landed.

21 of the last 25 picks have been winners at an average price of 1.88. last month’s ROI was 24% and for the last 12 months the ROI is at 9.3%.

Take a look at SHARK TIPS.

On to today’s matches.

Charleston, 16:00Errani wasn’t all that impressive in the first few games against Bertens. Peng has beaten her in their last 3 meetings although they were all in 2011 before Errani’s rise to the top 10.

Peng has been unlucky with her draws this season. Her last 3 losses were to Kerber, Bouchard and Safarova. She still took Kerber and Safarova to 3 sets though and I can see her taking a set today.

I expect Errani to come through in the end and will look to get a price above 1.80 .

Update: Very tight match with both having chances to take each set.

Errani won 7-6, 7-6.

Charleston, 18:00 – Surely everyone is looking forward to Bouchard against Venus Williams?

Williams has struggled this week. She doesn’t look to be 100% fit and scraped past Scheepers 7-5, 7-5. In her first round match she lost the second set 6-0 to Zahlavova Strycova before taking the third set 7-5.

Bouchard wasn’t tested by Kudryavtseva losing just 2 games in what has been her only match of the week. She may start a little slower than Venus and I am hoping to lay the American when she is a break ahead in the first set.

I think Bouchard takes this one. Stats for the last 3 months against the same opponents are stronger for her.

Update: Bouchard won 7-6, 2-6, 6-4.

In other matches:

Charleston: I think Pereira will give Hantuchova a scare or two.  The Brazilian beat Cirstea in a third set tie break in the last round and is a strong opponent on the clay. She reached the semi finals in Rio where she lost to Zakopalova. Hantuchova had an easy win over Grace Min in her last match but really struggled against Rogers who, with a little more experience, would have taken their match.

Update: Not close at all! Hantuchova won 6-2, 6-3.

Charleston: Cepelova beat Serena in the last round. Today’s opponent is Vesnina who made a terrible start to her last match but managed to get the win over Cetkovska despite almost throwing away a 5-0 lead in the deciding set.

I am favouring Vesnina for this one but her SP of 1.55 isn’t tempting me at all. Ideally she goes a break behind in the early games and we can get a more acceptable entry price.

Update: We got the early higher price and a nice trade on Vesnina. However she wasn’t able to hold her leads and Cepelova won 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.
