WTA China Open, 10:00 – Cornet v Mattek Sands
Head to heads are 1-1. The most recent meeting was in 2010 on clay. Sands won in 2 sets.
The 3 month and 12 month stats slightly favour Cornet. Her form in the last few tournaments hasn’t been great. She lost to Nara at the US Open and Goerges last week.
This is Sands’ 1st tournament since the US Open where she reached the 3rd round losing to Serena in 3 sets. She has come through the qualifying rounds in this tournament.
Value is on Cornet but on recent form I give Sands the edge. Back Sands if she is a break behind.
ATP Malaysian Open, 09:30 – Ferrer v Lopez
Ferrer leads their previous matches 8-6. He won their last 5 meetings. The most recent was in February 2014 on a hard court and he won in 2 sets.
Ferrer has had to work quite hard to reach the final. Becker took him to 3 sets in the semi final. He faced 13 break points in the match though was broken twice.
Lopez has been broken once in each match. I think as Ferrer is not quite at his best we will see a very tight match.
Back Ferrer if he gets broken first.
WTA China Open, 14:00 – Cibulkova v Jankovic
Jankovic leads their previousmatches 3-1. The most recent was in April 2009 on clay. Jankovic won in 2 sets.
Cibulkova reached the semi finals in Tokyo but lost in first round last week. She didn’t play Beijing last year.
Jankovic won the title in Guangzhou 2 weeks ago. She lost to Kerber in 3 sets last week.
I think we see a close match but I am going with Jankovic to win in 3 sets. Back her if she gets broken early.
