WTA Madrid Open, 10:00 – Wozniacki v Sharapova
Sharapova leads the head to heads 5-4. She leads 2-0 on clay. Wozniacki won both their 2014 matches.
Sharapova is possibly the best clay court player in the world but at the moment she is a little below her top level.
Wozniacki is enjoying playing on the clay which makes a change for her. Her recent results on the surface have shown a great improvement. She easily beat Radwanska in the last round.
Sharapova held strong against Garcia who played some excellent tennis. She will probably find a way to win a tight match. 3 sets look likely if they both perform as they have done so far this week.
WTA Madrid Open, 14:00 – Kuznetsova v Safarova
Head to heads are 4-4. They played twice last season. Safarova won on an indoor hard court and Kuznetsova won on clay.
Kuznetsova won yesterday against Stosur winning only 26 % of second serve points. However her first serve was excellent. All week she has got tight when leading. Against Muguruza she was a break ahead in all 3 sets but lost that lead each time. I think Kuznetsova will take a set but I also feel she has ridden her luck a lot already this week.
Safarova’s ground strokes should be able to put Kuznetsova under sustained pressure when she gets tight. I think we see another 3 set match and Safarova will edge it.
Back Safarova when a break behind.
