WTA Linz, 17:30 – Petkovic v Giorgi
Petkovic is the 4th seed but it is Giorgi who won both their previous meetings. They were in February and March this season and were both on hard courts.
Giorgi has a slightly better record on indoor hard courts over the last 12 months. her more recent form though isn’t good. She has lost her first match in 6 of her last 7 tournaments. The 7th was in New Haven where she reached the semi finals.
Petkovic has posted better results and since May she has only gone out in the first round once which was a loss to Stephens in Cincinnati. She reached the third round in Beijing.
Petkovic starts at 1.55 and even considering Giorgi’s lack of recent wins that looks too low. It should be Noted that her last two losses were to Svitolina and Safarova.
I think we will see three sets and that Petkovic will trade lower before Giorgi takes the lead. I am looking to lay Petkovic around 1.30 . It is hard to pick an outright winner but have to give an edge to Petkovic.
WTA Linz, 20:00 – Rybarikova v Kanepi
The only previous meeting was at the 2011 Australian Open. Kanepi won in 3 sets.
Kanepi has been in decent form with a 4th round at the US Open and a quarter final in Seoul. She was unfortunate to draw Sharapova in Beijing.
Rybarikova made the final in New Haven losing to Kvitova. She drew Wozniacki in her first match at the US Open. She also reached the quarter finals in Seoul.
Both are highly dependent on their serves and the rest of their game will fall apart if things aren’t working from the service line.
Kanepi start at 1.68 and I am favouring her in this one. I may take a small back at the start but really want a price nearer evens before backing.
