ATP Shanghai Masters, 08:00 – Murray v Ferrer

Ferrer came close to losing his third consecutive first match in a tournament when Klizan took their opening set and pushed him VERY close in the next 2 sets.

Murray didnt have any real issues against Janowicz and won in straight sets. he starts as a 1.24 favourite in this one which is understandable given Ferrer’s recent form.

Ferrer hasn’t suddenly become a bad player  and I would expect him to lift his game for this one. I don’t have too much doubt that Murray wins this but I won’t be backing him at that price. If Ferrer can force the price up I will back Murray. Nothing under 1.50 for me though.

Well the price hasn’t gone above SP in the Murray match. They are just starting the second set as I type this. – EDIT – That was quite a turnaround!

WTA Tianjin Open, 11:00 – Kulichkova v Peng

Kulichkova’s game is still maturing but she plays aggressive tennis and if Peng is not at her best this could go either way.

Peng wasn’t too impressive against Peer in the last round and backing her at 1.37 makes no sense. I think young Kulichkova will be full of confidence and will hopefully put pressure on Peng to give a more realistic backing price. If Peng is broken early I will back her. If it’s a tight match Peng’s experience should bring her through.

WTA Generali Ladies Linz, 15:00 – Rybarikova v Knapp

They have played before but both matches were back in 2006. Knapp won each time.

Knapp beat a below par Lisicki yesterday but played well to hold things together in the deciding set tie break. She has been in great form on the hard courts and won the title in Tashkent last month.

Rybarikova is ending the season better than she started it and reached the final in the Connecticut Open in August. She retired from her last tournament  which was in China.

Rybarikova came through a scrappy 3 set match with Kanepi in the last round. Both gave a lot of break points (Kanepi 14, Kanepi 20).

Knapp has been the more consistent player but I see this being quite close. Knapp starts as slight under dog and the value is certainly on her.
