13:00 – Youzhny v Soderling
Rankings are 20 and 9. Head to heads are 2-1 to Soderling.
Soderling was very impressive in his semi final against Davydenko. Davy wasn’t up to his normal standard but it could have been Soderling’s style of play that unsettled him.
It’s difficult to see Soderling being beaten this week. If he can keep the same level of play he will surely take the title.
However Youzhny is having a great tournament too. He beat Djokovic in the semi final and served extremely well under pressure with the exception of the first game he served to take the match.
I think we could see 2 close sets but I would expect Soderling to win.
Back him on serve.
Update: Soderling started slowly and lost serve in the first game. He immediately broke back.
Youzhny wasn’t moving as freely as he had in the semi final and received treatment half way through the first set. he continued to play but Soderling closed out the set.
In the second set Youzhny was struggling with his hamstring and when he was broken in the second game he retired.
Soderling won 6-4, 2-0(ret). At least Youzhny waited until the first set was complete, otherwise bets would have been void 😉
