Aegon Championships – Wednesday

14:30 – Querrey v Ginepri

Rankings are23 and 70. Head to heads are 2-0 to Ginepri.

Ginepri won their last match which was in this year’s French Open. It will be a different story on grass.

Querrey has one of the biggest serves on the tour. He averages over 10 aces per match and that will increase as we move away from the slower clay courts.

He has been in great form winning the Serbia Open and reached the final of the ATP world team championships with the USA team.

Ginepri was also in that USA team. He has also won a Challenger event on hard courts in April. He prefers the faster courts.

Querrey’s game is very well suited to Grass. He is fairly comfortable at the net if he chooses to follow in his big serve. I expect him to over power his oppoent today.

Back Querrey on serve.

Update: Querrey won 7-6, 6-2.

18:30 – Mahut v Cilic

Rankings are 148 and 12. Head to heads are 1-1.

Mahut won their last match which was in these championships last year. It was won in two tie break sets.

Cilic will much prefer the grass to clay. Even so he managed to reach the final of the BMW Open in May.

Cilic’s main weapon is ofcourse his serve. This has been below its best recently. This could be down to frustration at its lack of effectiveness on the slower clay courts. I think he will get back some confidence in it  now that we’re on the grass. Even with a “below par” serve he has won 85% of his service games.

Back Cilic on serve.

Update: Cilic won 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.
