Due to start at 10:20 am
Tsonga 2.30, Medvedev 1.75
Tsonga won their only previous meeting. That was on an indoor hard court in Montpelier, France in February 2017. He won in straight sets.
Both players have had excellent weeks. Medvedev beat Murray in his first match and then came back from losing the opening set in a tie break to Raonic. Raonic hit 29 aces in that match but it was Medvedev with the better serving stats. He faced 8 break points but saved them all.
Tsonga has not lost a set so far and beat De Minaur in the last round. Oddly it was Taro Daniel in the second round who put him under most pressure and managed to break the Frenchman’s serve three times.
Medvedev has continued where he left off in 2018 and is in superb form. I expect him to win a very tight match. This can easily go to 3 tie breaks. Back Medvedev around 2.00.
Update: Medvedev was broken in his 1st service game but he broke back and took it to a tie break. Tsonga led 4-2 in the tie break but Medvedev took the set. Set 2 was much more one sided.
Medvedev won 7-6, 6-2
