This will be their first meeting.
Almagro is the defending champion this week. Last year he beat Kyrgios in the semi final and Carreno Busta in 3 sets in the final. He did not face a break point against Paire in the last round though Paire didn’t put up much of a fight. I had hoped for more from the Frenchman.
Elias is the local player but he has been in poor form. He will certainly have any crowd support. His 3 sets win on Jaziri was his first main draw victory in Estoril in 9 visits. His only highlight from a poor 2017 was a Challenger final on clay last month.
If Almagro plays as he did in the last round this should be straight forward for him but he can make life hard for himself at any time. Wait for 1.75 before backing him.
Update: Almagro won 6-1, 6-2.
