This is the first time they have played.
Chung doesn’t come into the tournament in the best of form. He has won 3 of his last 10 matches. Playing a Challenger on hard courts perhaps wasn’t the best preparation for Roland Garros but it was in his home country so maybe he was obliged to play. He lost in the first round anyway as a 1.24 favourite! he did play in Nice last week but lost in straight sets to Mathieu.
He hasn’t played a great deal on clay but does have a winning record of 13 wins from 22 matches. He has played just one match a the French Open which was in a qualifying round last year. He won just 1 game to Jared Donaldson who was ranked 142 at the time.
Halys has been doing well in clay Challengers this season. He won the title in Tallahassee a month ago. He is also fairly inexperienced on clay and has won 15 of his 30 matches on the surface. He has won 7 of his last 10.
Halys starts around 1.90 and you can see why he is the slight favourite based on their recent form. I think we see a tight match and 4 or 5 sets.
I am favouring Halys to at least get into a winning position. I will back him if he faces a break point in the early games.
