ATP Geneva Open: Gojowczyk v Tipsarevic

Due to start at 3 pm

Gojowczyk 1.64, Tipsarevic 2.50

This will be their first meeting.

Tipsarevic has better overall results in 2019. His record on clay is much stronger. He has won 31 of his last 50 on clay (61%). He was away from the tour for over a year which included the whole 2018 season. This season he reached the quarter finals in Houston on clay last month. The following week he played a Challenger clay tournament in Mexico and had a disappointing loss to Lucas Miedler in the second round.  He hasn’t done well in Geneva in the past but surely will welcome a couple of matches this week so he can give a good account of himself next week at the French Open.

Gojowczyk reached the final last season. I suspect Ferrer and Fognini were saving themselves for Paris that week. IN the last 12 months he won 43% of his matches and has won 8 of 21 in 2019.  On clay he has played 7 matches since this tournament last season and won just 1 of them. He was pre match favourite in 4 of those 6 losses. He will be motivated for this one but will that be enough?

If Tipsarevic is interested in this tournament then he will be competitive and should take at least a set.

Lay Gojowczyk around 1.50. I favour Tipsarevic to win this.
