19:30 – Melzer v Turunov
Rankings are 10 and 129. Head to heads are 2-1 to Tursunov.
Melzer seemed to be back to better form and he dealt with Seppi easily enough in the last round.
Tursunov is playing well above his ranking and took out Ljubicic in straight sets.
Both have served well this week and this could be a close match with at least 1 tie break.
Tursunov leads the h2h but his last win against Melzer was in 2007. He doesn’t have a good record against top 10 players. In fact he has lost all 10 of his matches against top ten players.
Melzer needs to play his aggressive game and if he does he will be too strong. Ljubicic was too passive against Tursunov.
Back Melzer from the start. Make sure you have your strategy for what to do if it goes against you. Alternatively back him on serve although he can make heavy work of holding sometimes.
Melzer to win in 2 tight sets.
Update: Melzer started the match perfectly with an aggressive break of serve. Unfortunately he was then immediately broken back and ended up losing the first set. He came back very strong in the second set and raced to a 4-0 lead. He took the set but then fell away completely in the third.
Tursunov won 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
