ATP Miami Open, Final: A. Zverev v Isner

Isner has served well but Zverev should find a way through the bombs.

Due to start at 6 pm

Zverev 1.68, Isner 2.44

Zverev has won all 3 of their previous meetings.  They last in a semi final in May 2017 on the clay in Rome. He won in 3 sets. Their last hard court meeting was in this tournament in 2017.  He took that one in 3 tie breaks.

Zverev has better overall results in the last 12 months and also in 2018. His hard court results are also stronger for the previous year and for 2018. He had a tough opponent in every round. He needed 3 sets in his first two matches against Medvedev and Ferrer but Kyrgios, Coric and Carreno Busta all failed to secure sets against him.

Isner has raised his level in this tournament. He was broken 3 times in his first 2 matches but has not been broken in the last 3 rounds. He beat Del Potro in the semi final in straight sets but Del Potro had played a lot of tennis recently and he was clearly very tired.

Isner has better serve stats for the tournament but Zverev has been stronger on return. Zverev is unlikely to get many break chances but I give him the edge to take the title. We have some value on Isner as the sets can easily go to tie break as they did last year. Back Zverev above 1.90.

Update: This was a very tight match. Zverev traded well above 2.00 in the first set. He took the set in a tie break. A late break in the second set gave it to Isner and it was the American with another late break in the deciding set that took the title.

Isner won 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.
