Due to start at 5 pm
Wawrinka 2.88, Kyrgios 1.52
Head to heads are 2-2. They last met in May 2016 on the clay in Madrid. Kyrgios won in two tie breaks. His other win was at this tournament in 2015. That was when Kyrgios wound Wawrinka up by saying Kokkinakis had slept with his girlfriend. Wawrinka retired when 4-0 down in the deciding set.
Wawrinka is struggling for consistency since his return from surgery. He would love to beat Kyrgios today but I think he will get frustrated if his body isn’t up to the task. He has not managed two wins in a tournament since his return in May. He reached the semi finals of this tournament in 2016.
Kyrgios retired from his quarter final with Norrie last week but has said it was something minor that needed a couple of days rest. When he has been fit enough to play he has put in some excellent performances in 2018.
This could be an interesting match to watch as well as to trade. I have to favour Kyrgios to win.
Wait for 1.80 on Kyrgios.
Update: Kyrgios ran away with the opening set but was broken at exactly the same time in sets 2 and 3. Wawrinka won 1-6, 7-5, 7-5.
