Wawrinka leads their previous meetings 6-2. Their last match was in February this year. Paire won in 3 sets on an indoor hard court.
Wawrinka reached the semi finals last year. He beat Thiem and Nadal before losing to Federer in straight sets. Last week in Madrid he lost in two tie break sets to Kyrgios. I can’t see that he would let that match go in order to be rested for this week considering the history between him and Kyrgios. He needs some matches on clay before he tries to defend his French open title. His season isn’t going that well recently.
Paire is capable of beating him if Wawrinka is below par. Paire has shown his usual blend of excellent tennis mixed in with park standard play.
The value at the start is on Paire. This is Wawrinka’s to win or lose. I think we could see a very entertaining match.
