Rublev 2.12, Dzumhur 1.88
Rublev has won both their previous matches. They last met on the hard courts at the US Open in August and he won in 4 sets.
Rublev reached the quarter finals in Beijing last week and was beaten comfortably by Alexander Zverev. That may have knocked his confidence as he will have expected to
do better having beaten Jack Sock and Tomas Berdych in previous rounds. He didn’t seem to be handling the loss well during the match and we saw a few tantrums from the young Russian.
Dzumhur has been in excellent recent form. He won the title in St Petersburg and the following week made the semi finals in Shenzhen. He was ready for a rest and it was perhaps a blessing in disguise when he lost to Dimitrov in the first round in Beijing as he will be more rested for this week.
This is the first time either player has been to the Shanghai Masters. I give a slight edge to Dzumhur for this one. It will be interesting to see how Rublev bounces back from last week. A quarter final was a great result for him but I’m sure he expected more of himself.
