ATP US Open, 2nd round: Anderson v Gulbis, 10:30pm

Anderson 1.23,  Gulbis 5.00

Gulbis won their only previous meeting. That was in August 2012 in Winston Salem, USA. He won in straight sets on a hard court.

Better overall results for Anderson this year. He has also been stronger on hard courts though Gulbis’ form has only recently improved.

Ernests Gulbis should be competitive

Gulbis beat Alessandro Giannessi in 4 sets in the last round. He faced 13 break points in 4 sets but was only broken twice. He hit 20 aces but also 12 double faults. He has shown a little more motivation sine Wimbledon where he reached the third round.

Anderson was very comfortable in the last round against qualifier Aragone. He was never in trouble. He reached the fourth round at Wimbledon and then made the final in Washington on hard courts. The week after that he reached the quarter finals in Montreal.

Whilst I expect Anderson to win I expect Gulbis to be competitive. Lay Anderson around 1.15 to 1.20 and remove liability if he then gets broken or loses set 1.

Update: Anderson won in 3 sets. Just 1 break in each set.
