Midnight – Isner v Seppi
Rankings are 28 and 49. They have never met.
Isner had a great win last week and showed that he doesn’t wilt under the pressure. He actually gets stronger!
Seppi has won 2 of his 4 matches in 2010. Those wins were against much lower ranked players.
For me that makes Isner a strong favourite to take this match. His serve should be much too strong for his opponent.
Back Isner on serve
Update:Wow, close one! Isner won the opening 2 sets easily and anyone trading it will have been able to green up at a very low price.
Then Seppi seemed to find a new lease of life and levelled the match at 2-2. Isner came back to life and took the deciding set.
Isner won 6-3, 6-3, 3-6, 5-7, 6-4
02:00 – Garcia-Lopez v Wawrinka
Rankings are 44 and 19. Head to heads are 1-1 but they have never played on a hard court.
Wawrinka lost in the recent Chennai Open Final which gives an indication of how he has started the season. During his semi final though he struggled with too many unforced errors.
Garcia-Lopez is happier on clay. He may make a game of it in the opening set it should be Wawrinka who progresses to round 2.
Either back Wawrinka from the start or wait until he breaks serve before backing him. Green up at the end of the first set.
Update:Wawrinka won comfortably in straight sets. 6-3, 6-3, 6-2
04:00 – Chan v Kanepi
Rankings are 85 and 60. They haven’t met before.
This could be a close match and the starting price for Kanepi of 1.60 makes this an attractive prospect for the 15-40.
Hedge-up after each opportunity. Kanepi should take the match so break points in her favour would be preferable.
Update: Kanepi won 7-6, 6-2.
