Australian Open 2013 – week 1, Friday night

This morning was the first Sharapova match I have watched and traded ( if you can call lumping on at 1.28 trading). There hasn’t seemed much point which proved to be correct when she won both her previous matches 6-0, 6-0. Today she looked sharp against Venus Williams as she won in almost embarrassing ease. With Serena suffering with some sort of injury ( knee ) Shara’s chances have to be high to lift the trophy.

Wickmayer wasn’t very impressive in the last round against Cepelova. It was a straight sets win but she was expected to win much easier than 7-6, 7-5.

Kirilenko’s straight sets win was over Peng. Her form has been solid this week and I expect her to be more consistent than Wickmayer. Her starting price of 1.59 is a touch on the low side but I’m sure we will see 1.80 in the early games. I’d say there’s an outside chance of 3 sets but a Kirilenko straight sets win is more likely.

Seppi had a good win over Istomin in the last round but that tough 5 setter wasn’t good preparation for today’s match with Cilic.

Cilic leads the head to heads 5-4 but more importantly he won their last 3 matches ( all in 2011 ). He had a couple of matches in Chennai to find some form for this week. So far so good as he didn’t lose a set against Matosevic or Ram.

Seppi won’t be a pushover. He reached the semi finals in Sydney. Because of that I want a higher price than Cilic’s SP of 1.49 but there really should be only one winner today.
