Barcelona Open – Friday

13:30 – Gulbis v Verdasco

Rankings are44 and 9. They haven’t played before.

Gulbis has played some good tennis this week and has yet to lose a set.

Verdasco came through a tough 3 setter against Melzer. He was 1-3 down in the final set but then won the next 5 games.

He reached the final in Monte-Carlo last week beating Djokovic in the semi final.

Back Verdasco on serve or back him from the start.

17:30 – De Bakker v Tsonga

Rankings are 67 and 10. Head to heads are 1-0 to Tsonga which was on clay last year.

De Bakker had an unexpected victory over Ferrero yesterday. He won the deciding set in a tie break.

Tsonga isn’t known as a great clay court player although he has the skills required.

He beat Almagro in 3 sets in the last round which is no easy task.

Tsonga wins 85% of his service games.

De Bakker may be satisfied with what he has achieved already this week and could subconsciously take his foot off the gas.

Back Tsonga on serve. It could be a very one sided match.
