Flipkens v Hradecka:
These two have met twice before with once win each. They played once on an indoor hard court which was when Flipkens came out on top. They haven’t played for over a year.
Flipkens has had the tougher draw with Cibulkova and Barthel. Barthel had shown some great form this week but was taken out in two tie break sets. Flipkens took a couple of matches to really get into her stride but she now looks like a good pick to win the title.
Hradecka’s serve has been impressive at times but not consistently so.. She appeared quite tired in the semi final and you felt she really had to close the match out in 2 sets as she would run out of steam in a third set.
Hradecka has reached 4 main tour finals and has lost them all.
Flipkens is mentally stronger and seems physically stronger too. She starts at 1.81 which looks huge. Hradecka will struggle if it goes to 3 sets although I expect a straight sets win for Flipkens.
Update: Flipkens took a 4-0 lead in the first set. In the second it was much closer but a late break gave Flipkens a straight sets win in her first final.
Flipkens won 6-1, 7-5.
