It’s tough to call the winner between Tatishvili and Martic. Both had good wins in the first round although Tatishvili had much the stronger opponent.
Tatishvili reached the 4th round of the US Open which suggests her current form is high enough to beat Martic who has struggled to maintain any sort of form for several weeks.
They start very even on Betfair with Tatishvili at 1.91. With her recent form compared to Martic’s I think I have to favour Tatishvili but i won’t be getting involved until i have seen at least a few games. An early break for Martic would be very welcome.
Update: Easy win for Tatishvili 6-2, 6-3.
Once Flipkens got going against Cibulkova she played some good tennis but her slow start to the match is a concern. Lucic has been in mediocre form and needed 3 sets to get past El Tabakh and the third set went to a tie break.
1.45 seems a fair price on Flipkens. being greedy I’ll look for a little higher and hope she doesn’t run away with it from the first point. anything above 1.60 is value.
Update: I built up some green on Flipkens in the early games as she threatened to break. When the score got to 4-4 I hadn’t been impressed with her serving and decided to level the green. Smart move as she was broken although Flipkens immediately broke back. The set went to a tie break which went Lucic’s way. That was an obvious point to lay Lucic who was broken in the very next game. She managed to hold serve just once in that set. Flipkens took a close deciding set.
Flipkens won 6-7, 6-2, 6-4.
Hradecka and Bouchard have played just once before and it was a straight sets win for Hradecka. That was in March on a clay court.
I’m a little surprised at Hradecka’s price being as high as 2.06 as she has been serving well and allowed Sanchez just 1 break point in the last round.
Bouchard is of course on home soil and has recent wins over Voskoboeva and Peer.
If Hradecka’s serve is firing she will get a lot of cheap points. If it isn’t she will have to work hard and the match will be more evenly balanced. I’ll be watching her first 2 service games to try to decide how that serve is going.
Update: Hradecka broke serve in the 4th game of the match but was broken straight back. The set went to a tie break. In the first half of the set her serve hadn’t been too impressive but in the latter games she had found her range so I decided to stay with her for the tie break. I got lucky and she took the tie break.(7-2).
I left the match there as I needed some sleep. Bouchard fought back in the next set which she took easily. The third set was almost a carbon copy of the first with Hradecka breaking first but Bouchard immediately broke back. A second tie break also went the way of Hradecka.
Hradecka won 7-6, 2-6, 7-6.
I won’t be staying up for the 2:15am match but Wozniack shouldn’t have too much trouble with Melanie Oudin. 1.23 is perhaps a little short. This IS WTA after all!
