Bell Challenge, Quebec

There are two tournaments on this week, both WTA. The Tashkent event hasn’t attracted many decent players and as such the standard won’t be that great over all. Quebec has drawn in some of the better middle ranking women so we should see better games there. Also there is live video on bet365 and Betfair.

Ofcourse being lower ranked and less consistent make predicting matches with decent prices almost impossible! Here goes….

Tatishvili v Coin:

Julie Coin is back from injury and hasn’t played a main tour match since October last year. She has come through qualification here and won her 3 matches losing just 1 set so she has had a good chance to get used to conditions.

Tatishvili went out of the US Open in the first round losing to Pavluchenkova. She reached the quarter finals of the Baku Cup where she lost to Zvonareva in 3 sets.

Both women are quite inconsistent but I am going with more recent form. Tatishvili’s  recent quarter final suggests she is playing well and whilst Coin won 3 matches in qualifying she doesn’t have a good record on indoor courts.

Expect to see many breaks though but with Tatishvili coming out on top. (1.66)

Update: Both players started well and were serving like higher ranked players. Tatishvili took the opening set with a late break. I expected Coin to crumble but she didn’t and levelled the match. In the third Tatishvili went AWOL and Coin raced to a 5-1 lead. Tatishvili staged a comeback and pulled back to 4-5 but was unable to get the break despote forcing deuce.

Coin won 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Hampton v Lucic:

American Jamie Hampton retired from her match with Baltacha in the first round of the US Open when she was 1-5 down in the third set. Not sure what the point of that was. She has won just 1 match from 9 over the last year on the main tour.

Lucic has only won 8 from 22 matches in the last 12 months  Unlike her opponent she plays most of her tennis on the main tour which will be helping her game even though she isn’t winning many matches.

Hampton reached a Final of the ITF event in Vancouver last month but she plays her tennis against lower standard players. This may help her confidence and she is capable of winning this match but Lucic’s standard of tennis should be too much for her. Hampton has the weaker serve.

Lucic to win in 3 sets. (1.87)

Update: straight forward win for Lucic 6-4, 6-2.
