16:30 – Cilic v Almagro
Rankings are 11 and 36. Head to heads are 1-0 to Cilic which was on a hard court.
Cilic isn’t as comfortable on clay as he is on the faster courts. His serve is still a strong weapon but he, like everyone else, is forced to play many more ground strokes to win each point. He has had to battle to get his wins on this surface.
Almagro is a clay specialist so he’ll be disappointed that this is his first quarter final of the season. His game has improved on all surfaces but his overall level has dropped a little in recent weeks.
They are pretty much at evens on Betfair which I agree with.
Watch the opening couple of games to get a feel for who has settled quickest. Cilic wins 85% of his service games to Almagro’s 84% so they can both be backed on serve if their opening service games go well.
Very hard to pick a winner but as the clay specialist I give the edge to Almagro.
Could well be a 3 setter with at least 1 tie break if both players are on form.
