BNP Paribas Masters – Thur

10:00 – Davydenko v Soderling.

Rankings are 7 and 10. Head to heads are 5-3 in favour of Soderling. He has won 4 of their last 5 matches.

Davydenko needs to win one more match to qualify for the World finals. Soderling must reach the final to keep his qualification hopes alive. I feel Davydenko will be more motivated by those facts.

Davy has one of the most consistent first serves on the tour, hitting 68% of first serves in. He wins 85% of his service games whilst Soderling wins 86%.

The difference today will be the receiving abilities.  Davydenko wins 32% of games against serve ( ranking 3rd on the tour). Soderling wins 27% of games against serve.

This will be a very tight match and potentially a 3 setter.

Back Davydenko on serve.

Update: Very tight 3 set match. Soderling took the first but Davydenko came strong in the 2nd. Soderling took the match with a break of serve in the last game.

Soderling won 6-3, 3-6, 6-4

16:00 – Benneteau v Monfils

Rankings are 49 and 16. Head to heads are 3-1 to Monfils.

Benneteau had probably the biggest win of his career yesterday beating Federer in 3 sets. Emotionally that will have drained him and he will have burnt himself out.

Monfils wins 85% of his service games and if his ssrvice action hits its groove Benneteau won’t have an answer.

Back Monfils on serve.

Update: As expected, a straight sets win for Monfils. 6-4, 6-3.
